Q + A
1. Tell us about yourself- who are you, and what do you do?
I’m Laura Maloney. I’m a virtual assistant and a personal development blogger. As a virtual assistant specializing in PR and social media management, I support women entrepreneurs by saving them valuable time to care for themselves as well as landing them valuable press and helping them generate buzz around their businesses. As a personal development blogger, I facilitate conversations around self-care, insecurities, and mindset. I’m an advocate for authenticity online, encouraging others to share their struggles along with their successes. I recently self-published a guided journal that helps individuals use the process of cognitive reframing to work through their insecurities and create confidence over time.
2. When and why did you start your business/brand?
I have always been drawn to topics and brands around self-care, self-love, and self-improvement. I think one of the core beliefs I hold in my life is that everyone deserves to experience joy. I try to promote that through both my work as a virtual assistant and through the content I create on my platform.
I started blogging soon after college as a way to share my journey and the struggles I had overcome. From there, I met so many amazing people who connected with my message. I took my PR and marketing background and began reaching out to small business owners. I offered to help them in any way I could, from managing their social media pages and creating content to lending a hand with file management and data mining projects. I feel so aligned with my purpose when I’m able to support inspiring business owners and help people make positive changes in their lives.
3. What currently inspires you?
I’m always inspired by ambitious women who show up in their lives and businesses fully. The ones who exude confidence and aren’t afraid to be 100% real. Whenever insecurities start to creep up in the back of my head, I think about those type of women and imagine what they would do in my situation.
4. What are you looking forward to for your business/ brand this year?
I’m excited to continue to venture outside my comfort zone this year. I hope to connect with even more business owners in the wellness industry and help them grow their businesses. I’m also looking forward to publishing a second guided journal in the near future.
5. What do you want people to know about your work?
I love meeting up with business owners over coffee (or virtual-coffee these days) to brainstorm marketing ideas or talk honestly about the obstacles we are going through. People can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org or DM on Instagram @theselfset.
