With the threat of the COVID virus running through our communities, many businesses are forced to close doors and work remotely- if at all. While the virus is scary, the idea of losing business is oftentimes equally scary for entrepreneurs and business owners. The question is… does it have to be? What if we could use this time to reach our clients in a different way? Perhaps a more strategic way? The truth is, we are blessed to live in a time where we can connect with our communities digitally, and at virtually no cost. While you may not have clients and customers coming into your brick-and-mortar store, you can use social media to increase your brand awareness and grow your community. Here’s how…
Utilize Instagram Live
Okay, IG Live can be intimidating at first, but if you think about it, this is one of the best ways to reach your community in an authentic and personal way. No, you’re not seeing them in-person right now, but this is the next best thing. In fact, it could be better, because you’ll be talking to a large group of people all at once! Plus, you could have new viewers taking notice of who you are and what you do. IG Live is your megaphone. Think about what content might be entertaining for your community to watch, while still relating to your business. Are you a fitness studio? Offer free IG Live classes to anyone who wants to join. Are you a jewelry shop? Do an IG Live Q+A to discuss how your jewels are ethically sourced. Keep these videos personal, conversational, and engaging. Bonus points- feature another person from a related business in your industry (you can split screen) to gather the biggest audience!
Create Shareable Instagram Stories
You’ve probably seen templates floating around by now, but this is still a great tip to grow your community. Especially during this time of quarantine, people are at home and on social media– they are more likely to use your IG stories templates and share them with friends. Create an IG story with fill-in-the-blank questions. Make this story branded to your business, and be sure to add your IG handle. When you share this template, people will screenshot, fill in the questions, and share it to their own stories! Bonus points if you make these questions taggable (ie- “tag your greatest inspiration,” or “tag your funniest friend.”)
Create A Challenge
While everyone is at home, people are more likely to attempt a fun challenge! This could be a fitness challenge (the 10 pushup challenge,) a skincare challenge (create your own facemask,) or anything else that relates to you and your brand. Another popular challenge style has been “see and share” challenges (ex: See a baby pic, share a baby pic) where you post a photo, song lyric, or anything else that inspires you and tag friends to share theirs! If you are creating your own challenge, create a hashtag to go along with it and include that in your story!
The best strategy during quarantine is to focus on community, being genuine, and sharing positivity. We all have the ability to create good in the world right now, and the world needs good things more than ever. I can’t wait to see what strategic content you create during this time. If you want, share it with us @thesaltinfluence, and we’ll share it with our community as well!
